Chapter 11

Eve

When I arrive home, my mom has bathed and dressed Myla ready for bed. I feel a little guilty for not getting back sooner, but I try to push the negative thoughts aside. Even though I am a mother, I am still a woman and have every right to have safe sex with a man I like – Even if it was in a classroom at my daughter’s elementary school.

Especially when he said she would be getting her unicorn.” She chuckles, whilst my whole-body shudders as I remember how Santa pounded into me. “I better get going, your father will be wondering where I am.”

I clear my throat. “Thanks again for today.”

She waves me off, kissing my cheek. “I loved it. Now go see your daughter, she has it in her head you are going to let her stay up past her bedtime and watch a movie because she doesn’t have school tomorrow.”

I chuckle. “I might allow it. Just this once.”

My mother beams. “She will love that. Talk to you tomorrow.” And with that she is gone.

Moving through to the lounge where I know my daughter is, I stop at the threshold and stare at her. She sits comfortably on the couch, blanket over her as she plays on her tablet. “Hey baby,”

Her head snaps up. “Mom, can we watch a movie? Pleaseeee. Please.”

Closing the distance between us, I bend and pick her up. “Sure. Let me just go and get showered and then we will watch a movie. How do you feel about Ben joining us?”

Her eyes light up and she doesn’t even think about her answer. “Yes.” She shouts. “Is Ben really going to watch a movie with us?” she is so excited, my chest tightens. I briefly wonder if I went wrong somewhere, and she is craving a male role model and that is why she is so fixated on Bennett.
